We're All In This Together

Don’t forget to grab your mask, before you head out of the door!

Don’t forget to grab your mask, before you head out of the door!

It's 2020 and I haven't blogged in what feels like forever. Where was I? I was working from home, homeschooling kids and hiding from murder hornets and the boogey man, like everybody else. During this pandemic there's been A LOT of togetherness in my household. We take walks. We're baking, gardening, and of course sewing together. Although the togetherness has been awesome, the other day I decided to take my walk sans children. I rushed out the door without grabbing my keys, glasses, nor my mask. While basking in the sunlight and fresh air, minding my own business, a bee stung my bottom lip. Ouch!

After shrieking in pain, I laughed at the thought that my glasses could've helped me see the bee coming, and maybe I wouldn't have been stung if I'd worn my darn mask! Since it was early and the neighborhood streets were empty, from whom was I protecting myself? The rebellion came from me not wanting to accept masks as my new normal because it symbolizes the pandemic, and its affects, and that feels scary.

Like many business, the Ms. In Stitches family has had to pivot our business to stay afloat during these times. Like every other business from Dollar Tree to Auto Zone, our primary product offering suddenly included masks sales. Mask production became our saving grace and our new normal. The tailoring side of me initially resisted this pivot but once I put that aside, I tested and modified the fit of our masks several times with the wearers needs in mind. And while the mask market is pretty saturated with options, I'm truly proud of the feedback from repeat customers who can feel the differences of the In Stitches way even in something as simple as our masks.

Our masks feature:

  • Two layers of quilters grade cotton or cotton blend fabric and a non woven interlayer

  • Flexible nose crimp for a secure fit and prevention of foggy glasses

  • Adjustable elastic casings at the sides which, when scrunched, fit close to the face for secure fit

We offer several mask styles to suit your breatheability preferences, resizeable elastic, and the option to secure your mask behind your ears or your head.  You can even have a nice photo or message added to personalize your look. We also have sizes and brightly colored fabrics for children.

With all of these options, I feel silly for having risked going out without the mask.

The Center For Disease Control (CDC), " recommends that people wear cloth face coverings in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.

Cloth face coverings may help prevent people who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others.

Cloth face coverings are most likely to reduce the spread of COVID-19 when they are widely used by people in public settings." I've seen some pretty vehement mask protests.  Whatever your reasons are for possibly not wearing a mask, please know masks do potentially help prevent the spread of this disease. They save lips from bee stings. Most of all, wearing a mask shows your consideration for the global community. For my family and my swollen lip, that's enough. Order your mask by contacting us or visiting in shop. Enter promo code: ALLIN to take advantage of our discount promotion.

I hope you're well out there and I look forward to seeing you in the shop (wearing a mask) real soon.
